About
As a Senior Educational Developer with a specialism in digital education at the Centre for Innovation in Education, I support staff across the University in their curriculum review and enhancement developments, and a considered and critical use of digital tools for learning and teaching. This support role is one I really enjoy. We support staff with aligning their programmes to the Liverpool Curriculum Framework . One of my particular roles is to coordinate our Centre's support for digital education and digital fluency as a graduate attribute in programmes. The former involves support for our core institutional technologies, which include Canvas, O365 tools, Microsoft Teams, PebblePad, Canvas Studio, Buddycheck etc. My doctoral thesis was a case study of digital capabilities in disciplines. I also represent our Centre in various education committees, internal periodic review and approval panels and am the link to our Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
I am passionate about student evaluation, curriculum design and evaluation, and pedagogic research. I act as peer reviewer in a number of educational journals. I am regional co-lead ALT ELESIG and member of its national committee (was Chair between 2018-2021), a special interest group aimed at building capacity of practitioners in HE and FE across and beyond the UK. My specific areas of research encompass areas in curriculum evaluation, assessment and feedback, digital capabilities, and more recently artificial intelligence in education and organisational learning. In addition to my interest areas in education, I seek out and explore multimodal and creative methods in both my research and education practice. I have worked with using drawings and diagrams for data elicitation, used poems for data analysis, and created new methods for in student and curriculum evaluation, see a combined technique, the nominal focus group. I led a number of institutional research and evaluation projects, such as evaluating the VLE Baseline and EMA (Electronic Management of Assessment), and particularly keen to involve students as partners in the research process. I am editor of the Research in Learning Technology journal and collaborate on a range of educational research projects across institutions, including fairness of groupwork, metnroship scheme in learning technology, and currently leading on a SEDA small grants project on multimodal learning and generative AI. I host the Treasure Island Pedagogies podcast series.
